Level 2 Yr 1-2 Key Steps Gymnastics Competition

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 09:56

The Government funded School Games programme currently only offers competitive opportunities to pupils in Year 3 to Year 11. Several years ago, as a county we identified a local need for a competition at Key Stage 1, so many schools were providing their pupils with gymnastics training either through the curriculum or as an extra curricular cub and a competition is really nice way to bring all the schools together and provide the very young people with a very relaxed, yet positive competitive experience.

During the week before February half term Kingsthorpe College and Northampton Academy hosted the annual Year 1-2 Key Steps Gymnastics Competition. The effort and determination of the pupils attending was second to none and everyone was very proud of them.

Of the 19 schools who took part the medals went to

1st: The Good Shepherd Primary School*

2nd: Lings Primary School*

3rd: Delapre Primary School

*Schools qualify for the Level 3 School Games

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 09:38

Northampton School Sports Partnership has been running this competition for as number of years now, and year on year the interest from schools to participate in this competition keeps growing. This year we had to add an additional competition date, on top of two already published dates, to accommodate all the schools.

Supported by Northamptonshire Sport's Coaching Service the competitions ran very smoothly and there were some very high scoring schools and individuals. Several schools have recently purchased equipment to use in their school, so that they can engage a greater range of pupils in PE and School Sport, and the practice and preparation definitely showed!

Of the 23 schools who participated the medals were awarded to;

1st: Boothville Primary School*

2nd: Kingsthorpe Grove Primary School*

3rd: Queen Eleanor Primary School

* Schools qualify for the Level 3 School Games
