Level 2 Year 3/4 Mini Red Tennis Competition

Mon, 30 May 2016 20:06

On Wednesday 23rd May 2016 Northampton Lawn Tennis Club and Dallington Lawn Tennis Club kindly hosted our Level 2 Year 3/4 Mini Red Tennis Competition, with 18 schools participating across the two sites.

In April 12 Young Leaders from The Duston School undertook a 3 hour Tennis Leaders workshop to up skill them to confidently and competently officiate the Level 2 School Games competition. To support them in applying the knowledge they had learnt during their workshop, they officiated a small friendly Tennis Tournament at Dallington Lawn Tennis Club, which they all handled really well. They were well prepared for Level 2 Competition and did a superb job officiating all the games in the tournament - this was a great help to the teachers who were able to focus on ensuring their players were well organised.

Level 2 KS2 Goalball Competition

Mon, 30 May 2016 19:57

On Wednesday 4th May 2016 the KS2 Inclusive Goalball Competition took place at Danes Camp Leisure Centre.

This competition is like no other competition the Partnership organises...due to the nature of the competition (participants needing to listen to a bell inside a ball) there is no cheering or noise other than that made by the court officials. Every school adhered to this rule and the quality and standard of the competition of a very high level. a special mention to Lings Primary for their slickness and team work during every day...it was very impressive!

Results;

1st: Lings Primary School*

2nd: Queen Eleanor Primary School*

3rd: Earl Spencer Primary School

Level 2 Year 5/6 Quadkids Athletics Competition

Mon, 30 May 2016 19:39

Oh what a day...despite the weather forecast we decided to continue to run the Year 5/6 Quadkids Athletics Competition on Wednesday 18th May 2016 at Kettering Athletics Track. As we set up the morning competition in attire more common with our Cross Country event (wellies and waterproofs) we did wonder whether we had made the right decision. Having briefed the participants in the clubhouse all the participants embarked onto the athletics track for the competition to start. In no way did the weather dampen the spirits of the staff and participants which was amazing throughout the competition, nor did it hamper the superb performances of many participants (think they worked extra hard to get out of the rain!).

Having put the morning results into the car to try and dry out, we prepared for the second competition of the day, thankfully with the rain having eased. There were again some amazing performances from the afternoon participants - we really do have some very talented young athletes in Northampton.

With all intentions of combining the morning and afternoon results, and taking through our two highest placed schools to the Level 3 School Games, this was just not possible as unfortunately the ink was washed away from the Girls 600m morning race. So we decided that the best placed morning and afternoon schools should progress.

A HUGE thank you to all the staff who undertook officiating roles throughout the competition...without you we could not have ran the competition.

The results were;

Morning Competition

1st: Millway Primary School*

2nd: The Good Shepherd Primary School

3rd: East Hunsbury Primary School

Afternoon Competition

1st: Cedar Road Primary*

2nd: Queen Eleanor Primary

3rd: Delapre Primary School

On Wednesday 23rd March 2016, Northampton SSP hosted the Year 3/4 Quicksticks Competition, at Moulton College. The initial registration for the competition attracted a record number of schools hence the move to a new venue, which proved to be very good decision as the playing facilities were exceptional.

With selection for the Level 3 Summer School Games on the cards, every game and goal was important. We were grateful to the Umpires from Northamptonshire Sport and Moulton College for their time and they umpired some great games.

The results were

1st: Weston Favell Primary School*

2nd: Boothville Primary School*

3rd: The Arbours Primary School

Year 4/5/6 Cross Country Championships

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 19:34

On Wednesday 16th March 2016 the Northampton School Sports Partnership hosted its annual Cross Country Championships at Abington Park - the best competition yet! The demand from schools to enter this event meant that we had to run the event over two competition sessions. This year over 950 pupils took part in the event, that saw the distances the different year groups were required to run quite substantially lengthened compared to the other years. This decision was taken to avoid the chaos we often see at the finish line and to provide a competition that falls better in line with national governing body guidelines.

It was very pleasing to see the amount of effort the pupils were putting into this competition despite it being a chilly day, and there were certainly some amazing individual and team performances.

A big 'Thank You' must go to Northamptonshire Sport Core Team who helped Marshalls the course and were there early doors to prepare the course and event, and to the staff and pupils who made the competition the best on record.

This year we also asked schools to help raise some funds for Northamptonshire Federation of Disability Sport (NFDS), buy donating 50p each to participate in the Cross Country Championships. NFDS provides opportunities for young people and adults with a disability to experience the enjoyment of participating in sport and physical activities. Thanks to Delapre, Abington Vale, Whitehills, Sunnyside, Green Oaks and Chiltern Primary Schools who have raised £89.00 - a great achievement, well done!
