New Walk and Talk Sessions in Kettering
Posted: Wed, 15 Jan 2020 11:00
New Walk & Talk sessions have been launched by Kettering Council, Kettering Mind and Groundwork Northants to offer support if it is needed and promote the mental and physical benefits of being active.
The FREE sessions will take place every Monday morning at 11am, commencing 13th January, and those who attend will meet at Kettering Mind on Russell Street before setting off for a short, friendly walk.
Trained staff at Kettering Mind will act as 'walk leaders' in order to deliver these walks to the public and offer mental health support if it is required.
Anybody can come along and are welcome to talk as much or as little as they like. There is no requirement to attend every week and all are invited for refreshments in Kettering Mind's Mixing Bowl room after the walk.
This new initiative has been set up following the success of Beat the Street, which took place in November last year. Over 8,620 people took part in the interactive game and achieved over 85,000 miles collectively by walking, running or cycling around Kettering.
Research by Beat the Street has shown a positive increase in physical activity levels in both children and adults, and the government's recommended guideline of 150+ minutes a week of physical exercise increased from 60% to 75%.
The Walk and Talk sessions are one of the many activities being developed following the success of Beat the Street as a proactive way to continue with not only the benefits of remaining active but also offering mental health support.
