Daventry's sport and physical activity providers are being invited to take part in a discussion to help improve the health of people living in the District.
The first Physical Activity Forum, which is being run by leisure operator Everyone Active and Northamptonshire Sport, is designed to encourage local providers to work together to find ways of getting people more active more often.
The event will take place on Wednesday 27th February at Daventry Leisure Centre (NN11 4FP) from 8pm – 9:30pm. It is open to representatives of sports clubs, jogging groups, walking groups, parkrun and people who provide any other form of sport, or physical activity.
The event will start with an overview of the work Everyone Active and Northamptonshire Sport are doing together in the Daventry district to get the least active people taking part in more physical activity on a regular basis. There will also be opportunities for networking and for other providers to share best practise.
Megan Whittingham, Everyone Active's Activities Manager at Daventry Leisure Centre, said: "We're very excited to be hosting the first Physical Activity Forum within Daventry. This is a fantastic opportunity for local clubs and groups to come together and form a partnership to help tackle inactivity within the area."
"We've managed Daventry Leisure Centre for 6 years now and we're keen to continue our work to engage more of the local community in different sports and activities. This will be a great opportunity for us to share details of the partnership work we are doing with Northamptonshire Sport and enlist the help of others to achieve our shared objectives which are set out in the 'Northamptonshire More Active, More Often' Sport and Physical Activity Framework."
Graeme Wilson from Northamptonshire Sport said of the Physical Activity Forum:
"Both Northamptonshire Sport and Everyone Active would like to use this opportunity to bring together as many people involved in delivering physical activity in the Daventry district as possible!"
"We've got a massive job on to get people who are currently participating in very little if any physical activity to doing the 150 minutes of moderately intense exercise a week that is recommended by Public Health England."
"Inactivity currently costs the NHS in Northamptonshire £12 million per year! We want to get people active, so they can experience the physical and mental health benefits this can bring while saving the NHS this vital financial resource to be used to help those who really need it!"
"The fantastic volunteers who already help get so many people active have got an important role to play in helping us to achieve this, so we'd like to use this forum as a means of starting this consultation process."
Anyone who would like to attend the forum should contact Graeme via email on Graeme.Wilson@firstforwellbeing.co.uk by Sunday 24th February to book their place.
