Maisie Summers – Newton and Ellie Robinson of Northampton Swimming Club were both in brilliant form at the World Series event held in Sheffield last week.

On Thursday evening 15 – year - old Summers – Newton (pictured) won the S6 100m breaststroke and broke the World Record for the event in the process. Her winning time of 1:33.92 beat the previous best time by a massive 1.03 seconds.

On Friday evening 16 – year – old Robinson broke the S6 50m freestyle British Record in a time of 34.16. She then went on to win gold in the 50m butterfly on Saturday evening in a time of 35.93 seconds.

Summers – Newton's other standout performance of the week was in the 200m Individual Medley where she clocked an impressive time of 3:03.79 when finishing just behind British para – swimming legend Ellie Simmonds.

These performances by the two Northants swimmers have resulted in them both today being named in the British Swimming squad that will compete at the European Para – Swimming Championships being held in Dublin, Ireland from the 13th to the 19th August.

Northamptonshire also had representatives in the British International Para – Swimming Championships which ran alongside World Series event. This saw some great personal best time performances by Kian Saville of Daventry Dolphins Swimming Club, Ellie Spokes, Nima Ghavami, Bruce Dee, Scarlett and Eliza Humphrey of Northampton Swimming Club.

Many congratulations to all of these swimmers for representing the county so well at such a prestigious event and if anyone with a disability would like to get involved in para – swimming then they need to contact Northampton Swimming Club either by phone on 01604 622264, or email enquiries@northamptonswimming.com.
