Nordic Walking is Coming to Salcey Forest

Nordic Walking Northampton and the Forestry Commission are brining Nordic Walking to Salcey Forest to get more people of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels taking part.

Nordic Walking is an inclusive activity that is low impact but offers so many Health Benefits to everyone, and because Nordic Walking uses 95% of your body's skeletal muscles, here are a few things that you may find improve as a result.

Fitness levels improved

Weight loss

Enhances your mood

Better posture

Better heart health

Relieves tension in the back & neck

Improved mobility of the upper spine & trunk

Improves breathing by expanding the lungs

Builds confidence in people with balance issues by using the poles

Burns as many calories as jogging but without the impact through your joints

Very sociable activity as we do it in groups so you can chat whilst walking and then we have a cuppa at the end.

Builds strong relationships with other walkers as our goals are similar

There will be regular Learn 2 Nordic Walk Beginners Workshops where you will be able to learn how to use the poles correctly and then access all the regular walks on offer.

There will be 4 levels of walks available to anyone who have completed the Learn to Nordic Walk Beginners Workshop:

Wellbeing Walks: These will be shorter between 1 and 3 miles and are at a nice leisurely walking pace. These are for beginners and will be suitable for everyone aged 8 to 80.

Stamina Walks: These are 3 to 4.5 miles long and your aim is to be trying to build Stamina to Nordic Walk at the optimal 3mph or 20 minute miles for the whole 3 miles. This will be the next step up from the Wellbeing walks and will be suitable for most walkers looking to just build fitness and burn those extra calories off.

Endurance Walks: These are for those who want to go the distance as they will start at 5 Miles and go up to 13 miles. Time and speed are as relevant as the terrains will be more tricky and therefore you will use more muscles - the muddier & hillier the better!

Fitness Walks: These will be over 3 miles and will be at a faster pace with a stricter technique.
