Half term Street Sports Football tournament set to kick off in Northampton This February

Young people from across Northampton will kick off the half term with a Street Football Tournament at three separate locations.

The five-a-side tournaments, organised by Northampton Leisure Trust as part of the Northampton Street Sports project, will take place from Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th February 2018 from 12:30pm to 3:30pm for ages 10-18. Check out the times, dates and venues below.

  • Tuesday 13th February – Lings Wood
  • Wednesday 14th February – The Racecourse
  • Thursday 15th February – Far Cotton Rec

The tournaments provide an opportunity to bring together players aged 10 to 18 from the town's 13 different weekly street sports sessions and other young people from across the town.

Prizes will be given for the best show of skill (e.g. goal, trick or save), fair play in the game and for the penalty shoot-out competition.

Johnny Yates, Sports Delivery Development Officer at Northampton Leisure Trust, said: "As well as being a fun event and a chance for youngsters to make new friends from different communities, the aim is to teach new skills, promote fair play and help youngsters to work as part of a team."

Although some teams have now been chosen for the February Tournament it's never too late to get involved. If you don't have a team please come down and join in on your tournament day, we will still be able to get you involved. Following this tournament why not try out your local weekly Street Sports session? Sessions are completely free and take place every weeknight in Northampton, see our website for more details. The project is always on the lookout for new players and volunteers to help run the sessions so head down or get in touch and get involved in sport!

The project has been running for over 12 years, helping thousands of young people break down the barriers between different backgrounds and communities.
