Two big names from the world of bowls visited Daventry recently to showcase the sport and find out about local efforts to promote the sport more widely around the District.
England lawn bowls international David Bolt and New Zealand carpet bowler Avon Compton spent the day meeting local players as well as introducing the sport to newcomers.
Their visit took them to Mayfield Park Sports Club, Daventry Town Bowling Club, Daventry Indoor Bowls Club, Daventry Museum, Stonhills Estate Agents and Daventry Leisure Centre.
Daventry District Council Chairman Councillor David James, Consort Janet James and Daventry Town Mayor Councillor Lynne Taylor were among those joining David and Avon for a game.
The visit was organised by Mark Courtney of Bowls Daventry, an initiative to promote the sport of bowls in Daventry District and beyond.
It was held ahead of a 'Bowls Week' being planned in Daventry from Monday April 23, which is set to include a range of run bowls events including opportunities for newcomers to try different forms of the sport.
Mark said: "It was fantastic to welcome Avon Compton and David Bolt to Daventry. It was a great opportunity for us to show these top players what we're doing in Daventry to showcase bowls, as well being a really fun, informal way to introduce new people to the sport.
"'Bolty' is set to play for England in the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April and we are looking forward to seeing him in Daventry just a week later when he is due to host an evening of Bowls Banter at Daventry Indoor Bowls Club. This is being held as part of our 'Bowls Week' event, which promises to be a really fun few days of activities which will offer everyone an opportunity to have a go at this wonderful sport."
