Changing Futures For Women In Sports Media

Northampton University welcomes you to an event that celebrates Women in Sports Media and aims to encourage the next generation to join the growing number of females working in sport journalism, marketing and content creation.

The event will take place at the Avenue Campus of Northampton University on 8th February from 9.30-4pm and is aimed at two sets of attendees. Firstly, current female sports media employees who wish to hear speakers from the industry and network.

Secondly, for selected students aged 16-18 to come and take part in sports journalism, marketing and content creation workshops to see how the professionals do it!

A schedule follows. When applying to attend, please state your name, company/school/college and which sessions you wish to attend.

10.00 -PANEL Made In Northampton

ALL the major sporting bodies in Northants have female media officers. BBC Radio Northampton's Caroline Densley introduces us to a few of them and finds out their plans and challenges.

1.30pm 'Been there, done that in Northampton'

Former University of Northampton student and current marketing officer at Northampton Town FC, Charlotte Hyams, talks about studying sport at the university and working at Northampton Town

2pm PANEL: A pitchside view of women's sports media

Editor of She Kicks magazine, Jen O Neill is joined by current sports women for their view on the role women play in the growth of sports media and coverage of their sports.

10am Sports Broadcasting Masterclass with BBC's Robyn Cowen.

11.15am Telling the Story of the Saints -Communication for a sports club with Liz Tyler from Northampton Saints rugby.

1.30pm Former University of Northampton student and current marketing officer at Northampton Town FC, Charlotte Hyams, talks about studying sport at the university and working at Northampton Town.

2pm Sports writing masterclass with Vikki Orvice.

Day ends at 3pm for students.
