ABAE - Important Update
Posted: Wed, 22 Nov 2017 09:12
Following queries from the membership regarding a recent update and confirmation by the Technical and Rules Sub-Committee, the provisions and regulations concerning sparring have been clarified as follows;
At the outset can we stress that, as with the membership, we take the safeguarding and safety of our boxers extremely seriously and therefore the following regulations apply:
- Sparring is only permitted where a boxer, is registered on The Vault (Carded or Recreational) and have had medical clearance and the detail appropriately recorded.
In the case of a Carded Boxer this is in the BCR1 book or in the case of recreational boxer in writing and a copy retained by the boxer and the Club from the relevant doctor.
- For reasons of safe guarding and safety, under no circumstances is sparring permitted for any boxer under the age of 10 years old.
- All sparring must be supervised under the supervision of instructor (a minimum of a level 2 coach ) who is also a member of England Boxing and registered on The Vault.
- For the avoidance of doubt for the purposes of this regulation/provision, Sparring is defined as Boxing training where blows are delivered to the target area with significant but reduced force between boxers in preparation for competitive boxing.
Failure to comply with the conditions is not only a breach of England Boxing Regulations but also invalidates England Boxings insurance cover for the boxers and coaches concerned.
We trust this clarifies the matter and recognises the safety, safeguarding and insurance consideration in conducting this activity.
