Last month it was revealed that Northamptonshire will be hosting a stage of the prestigious Women's Tour for the fourth consecutive year.
This year, the Northamptonshire stage is the first of the 5 day tour. The other four stages will be held in Warwickshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, and Derbyshire before finishing in London.
Stage 1 will start in Daventry for the Grand depart on Wednesday 7th June and yesterday, local rider, Alice Barnes visited Daventry to promote the launch of the tour.
The route through Northamptonshire this year goes from Daventry, north through many villages including Guilsborough, Naseby and Welford and on towards Desborough. The route then moves up to Corby and then on to Oundle, where the start has previously been held. The riders then move south towards Thraspton and around the outskirts of Wellingborough before finishing once again in Kettering. To view the full route, click here.
Alongside The Women's Tour, Northamptonshire County Council and SweetSpot will be holding a mass participation cycling event on Sunday 18th June.
Starting and finishing at Delapre Abbey in Northampton, The Tour Ride will follow part of The Women's Tour route that the world's top riders have raced on annually since 2014, with 10-mile, 40-mile and 80-mile routes available.
