Northamptonshire Sport hosted the 2017 English Schools FA County Small Schools Football finals at Kingswood Secondary Academy on the 16th January. The competition was a culmination of 4 qualifying rounds and brought together the top 8 schools in the county. The Schools competed in 2 pools before progressing on to the knockout stages.
Over 50 schools had competed for the crown of best in Northamptonshire before the event in Corby. Matthew Peleszok, School Sports Manager for Corby, Oundle and Thrapston and event organiser said 'Congratulations to all of the teams on qualifying for finals night. This is a testament to all of the hard work put in by the students, staff and volunteer coaches who support the teams. We are delighted to have had such a fantastic take up of opportunities this year with numbers increasing on an annual basis.'
In an all-South Northants and Daventry Association final Roade School, retained their title by narrowly beating Rothersthorpe School in an end to end final. The battle for bronze was an all Wellingborough and East Northants Association affair where Great Addington School pipped Grendon in another close match.
Roade School will progress on to the regional round in Nottingham where they will represent Northamptonshire. Good luck.
Full list of teams competing were - Gretton and Cottingham (Corby, Oundle and Thrapston Schools Football Association), Isham and Pytchley (Kettering Schools Football Association), Great Addington and Grendon (Wellingborough and East Northants Schools Football Association) and Roade and Rothersthorpe (South Northants and Daventry Schools Football Association).
