On Sunday 20th November Long Buckby Hockey Club welcomed Nicola White who was a member of Great Britain Women's Hockey team that won the Gold medal at the Rio Olympics in a dramatic penalty shoot - out.
White attended the club's junior sessions which they'd opened out to any young people aged 7 and over in the local area to attend for which they were duly rewarded with a high number of new participants who braved the cold at Daventry Sports Park.
The Olympian joined in the training session, showing her skills and passing on valuable tips to the young players who were very happy to learn from such a great role model.
Proceedings then moved inside to the warmth of the clubhouse where the Great Britain forward signed autographs, had photos taken with players and showed them her Gold medal. She then answered questions from the group about her experience at the Olympics, how she got involved in Hockey and what advice she had for the young players which was most importantly to just enjoy playing the sport.
Everyone then moved back outside for a coaching master class from White on dribbling and finishing skills something she's done at the highest level having scored the equalising goal in the Olympic final against Holland to take it to penalties.
Then the session finished with the Great Britain player joining in a match before everyone made their way home having been inspired by an Olympic Gold medallist.
Long Buckby Hockey Club offer opportunities for people to play the sport in their junior, ladies and mixed teams. For more information on any of these teams and how to get involved in them people can either have a look at the club's website, or contact Amanda Becker by email on email@example.com.
