Keeping Kids Fishing In Corby – New Indoor Fishing Activities Start Soon

Corby Junior Fishing Club is running special indoor sessions throughout the coming months where kids can learn skills to go fishing. The plan is for these to be put to use during a full calendar of club events that kick off in 2017. The beginner days will show children how to use fishing tackle and different methods to catch fish near where they live. It's the perfect opportunity to introduce newcomers to angling this winter and for young people to develop new skills. All the club's sessions, events and news can be found at www.facebook.com/corby.juniors
The club have had a busy year promoting angling as a fun activity for the whole family, and the October half term saw it organising angling "taster days" at the town's Boating Lake – a great use of this local resource. Over 40 participants had a simple introduction to the wonders of fishing, overseen by the club's friendly licenced angling coaches. The holiday highlight was 14 year old Aiden McIntyre catching a 12lb carp which he battled with for nearly 10 minutes!
Richard Hawkes, club chairman & angling coach said: "It's been great to see so many people getting out and having a go at fishing during the school break. We recognise quite a few of the youngsters from the summer sessions we ran. They are obviously keen to develop their angling skills, which is brilliant to see, and just shows how fishing is a great way to keep kids active in the great outdoors with their family. We want even more families to get involved by attending our indoor sessions in the weeks to come. You'll be able to stay warm in the club house while you learn, then put new tackle and tactics to use as soon as you step out on the bank."
James Roche, Senior Regional Officer for the Angling Trust commented "Working with the club and experiencing the local appetite to get into fishing has been amazing! Corby Junior Fishing Club is incredibly committed to making sure that everyone they meet can have a go at angling. I urge mums and dads to get in touch about these new indoor activities – they are a fantastic way for young people to learn new skills, plus the timing of the sessions is perfect now that evenings are drawing-in."
