On Saturday 11th June Friars JM's Netball Team travelled to the Derby Arena to compete in the England Netball Marion Smith Competition for people with learning difficulties. Due to the growing success of the Friars JM's club this year they were able to enter two teams, one in the under 16 competition and one in the over 16's.
Throughout the competition the girls played with determination, passion and team spirit fighting to win, but also enjoying the experience. They were also very lucky to meet England international Netballer Sasha Corbin at the event who ran a coaching session for them in between games, signed autographs and posed for photos.
The over 16's team had a number of very challenging matches against much older and more experienced opposition. They finished in 3rd place overall behind EPCN Dynamos and Alfriston. The under 16's however managed to successfully retain their title making them national champions for the 3rd time!
Friars JM's players Alisha Noble and Rachel Durman were chosen as outstanding players throughout the tournament and won the England Netball Star Award. They were both presented with a Netball signed by Sasha Corbin.
Friar's JM's would welcome any new girls with a learning disability to play for them and train at Redwell Leisure Centre in Wellingborough on a Thursday evening 4:45 – 5:30pm. For more information call 07780 007 709, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or go to the Northants JM's website.
