Overstone clinch Mini-Red Tennis Victory

Overstone Primary clinched Mini-Red Tennis success for the second year running as they fought off competition at the Daventry South Cluster Mini-Red Tennis Competition at a bright and sunny Moulton School on Thursday 5th May.

The competition saw teams from Overstone, The Bramptons, Pitsford and Sywell compete in a round-robin competition supported by Sports Leaders from Moulton School. B teams from Pitsford and The Bramptons received coaching from Dallington Tennis Club coach Tom Stevenson before playing in a separate Spirit of the Games competition.

Each match between schools consisted of 4 individual fixtures with the No.1 and No.2 boys and girls competing against their respective equal. Match winners were determined by the number of individual games won. In the event of a tie, match winners were determined by the number of point scored by the teams over the four fixtures.

In the first round of fixtures, Overstone claimed victory over The Bramptons 3-1 with Sywell defeating Pitsford by the same scoreline. Round 2 saw Overstone win 4-0 over Pitsford and Sywell overcome The Bramptons 3-1. Round 3 saw winner-takes-all matches between Overstone and Sywell for 1st/2nd place and Pitsford and The Bramptons for 3rd/4th place. The Bramptons claimed 3rd place with a 3-1 victory and Overstone secured their second competition victory in 2 years with a 4-0 win over Sywell.

In the Spirit of the Games competition, The Bramptons secured victory on points following a 2-2 draw with Pitsford. The Bramptons' 25-points just enought to top Pitford's 20.

The SSP would like to congratulate all of the children for their efforts during the evening and also thank all staff and parents who supported and encouraged them throughout. Special thanks are also reserved for the Sports Leaders of Moulton School for umpiring the matches. We wish Overstone the best of luck as they progress to the next round and face the other cluster winners from around South Northants and Daventry at the School Games Level 2 Mini-Red Finals on Wednesday 8th June at Roade Tennis Club.
