On Tuesday 8th December, the Daventry Town Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics competition took place at Daventry Leisure Centre, with 7 primary schools competing for the opportunity to represent the cluster at the School Games Level 2 Partnership Finals next month.
Over the course of the afternoon, the teams from Clipston, Great Creaton, Staverton, Guilsborough, Ashby Fields, The Grange and Braunston Primary Schools competed in a series of track and field events to earn points for their teams and with each team member able to undertake a maximum of 2 track and 2 field events, there were plenty of points on offer.
The track events included the 1+1 Lap, 2+2 Lap and 4x1 Lap Relays, a 6 Lap Paarlauf and an Obstacle Relay. The field events included the Standing Long and Triple Jump, the Chest Push, Speed Bounce, Vertical Jump and the Javelin. Each event was supported by Sports Leaders from The Parker E-ACT Academy.
At the end of the event and all of the scores were recorded, it was Braunston Primary School who claimed first place with 262 points. The Grange School finished in 2nd place with 250 points and Staverton's 172 points was just enough to secure 3rd place from Clipston.
The Partnership would like to thank all children, staff and parents who attended the event and wish Braunston good luck at the School Games Level 2 Finals next month where they will compete against the other clusters' representatives from around South Northants. Special thanks is also reserved for Mr Hill and the Sports Leaders from The Parker E-ACT Academy, without whose help the event would not have been possible.
