This week 15th – 21st June is nationally recognised as 'Learning Disability Week' and to celebrate that Northamptonshire Sport want to highlight some of the work carried out using funding from our good cause of the year 'Northamptonshire Federation of Disability Sport (NFDS)' that's benefitted people with learning disabilities.
In 2012 NFDS gave £1000 to the Disability Inclusive Sports Club (DISC) in Towcester whose membership is largely made up of people with learning disabilities, so they could run a Summer Gala event to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The funding allowed DISC to offer fun competitions in 6 different sports for 43 disabled people all of whom received T-shirts and medals for their efforts. They also got the chance to meet the official 2012 Paralympic mascot Mandeville who was special guest at the event making it a day to remember for all concerned.
The DISC Summer Gala has now become a regular event and this year's is being held at Ferney Fields Sports Club in Northampton on Sunday 28th June 2-5pm. More details on this can be found on the poster attached and the DISC website.
If you'd like to contribute towards Northamptonshire Sport's fundraising efforts for NFDS that will enable them to help create more opportunities for disabled people in the county like the DISC Summer Gala then you can donate on their Local Giving Page where you can also find out more about them and their good work.
