Northampton Para Swimmer Eleanor Robinson had a debut to remember when she broke the World Record for the S6 classification 100M Butterfly while competing for Great Britain for the first time at the IDM event in Berlin last week.
Fresh from winning 5 medals at the British Para – Swimming International meeting in Glasgow a few weeks ago 13 year old Robinson took no time at all in making an impression for Team GB at the event in Berlin where there were swimmers from 41 other nations competing.
Under the watchful eye of her coach Andy Sharp from Northampton Swimming Club who was also part of the British team for the first time Eleanor broke the World Record in her first final at the event in an amazing time of 1 minute 26.30 seconds!
Eleanor then followed this up on the second day of the competition by breaking her own British Record in the 50M Butterfly final. Her time of 38.58 seconds was enough to win the Silver medal and in the process beat Russian swimmer Anastasia Diodorova who was second in the same event at the 2013 World Championships.
The third day of the meeting brought Robinson yet more success as she won the Bronze medal in the 200M Butterfly with a time of 3 minutes 15.02 seconds which is the second fastest ever recorded by a swimmer in the S6 classification.
She then concluded the event on yet more high notes when making the finals of the 200M Freestyle and 200M Individual Medley in which she set personal best times in both.
The Northamptonshire Sport Disability Development Officer, Graeme Wilson said the following about Eleanor's latest achievements:
"For someone so young that has only been swimming competitively for two and a half years to be breaking a World Record is incredible! It's great to have someone from Northants like her representing Great Britain and hopefully her achievements will inspire other disabled people from the county to get involved in swimming."
