Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop

Northamptonshire Sport are working in partnership with England Athletics to run a free 'Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running' workshop at John Dryden House (NN4 7YD) on Tuesday 9th June 7-9pm.

This opportunity has come about following a drive by both organisations to try and get more people with visual impairments (VI) involved in running whether that be in jogging groups, Parkruns, and or Athletics clubs. However in order for this to happen depending on the severity of people's impairments some of them may require a volunteer guide runner to assist them during training and events.

The workshop is aimed at Leaders, Coaches and Volunteers from Run England groups and England Athletics affiliated clubs. It will teach attendees about different types of visual impairment, classification and competition, appropriate behaviour and terminology, how to make sessions VI friendly, top tips for safe guide running and a practical element to put the theory in to practise.

People can book on the workshop on the Eventbrite website.

If you'd like more information about the workshop before booking then please contact either Helen Pearce (England Athletics) on 07968 498705 hpearce@englandathletics.org, or Sarah Harvey (Northamptonshire Sport) 01604 366752 SaHarvey@northamptonshire.gov.uk.
