On Wednesday 29th April, five primary school archery teams attended the second South Northants and Daventry Year 4/5 School Games Arrows Archery competition held at The Elizabeth Woodville School (North Campus) in Roade.
With five teams having already set their scores in last week's Archery competition at Sponne School, the primary archery teams from Bugbrooke, Deanshanger, Sywell, Roade and Silverstone had their turn to earn as many points as theh could with the aim to be one of the two highest scoring teams and earn a place at the Summer School Games on Thursday 9th July.
Over the course of the competition, the children each took part in three stations led by Sports Leaders from EWS, taking turns to fire six arrows each. The stations included: tradtional archery - firing at a standard archery target; clout - a target-based activity requiring a shot with vertical trajectory and jigsaw - an archery target consisting of 5 point-scoring jigsaw pieces. The children also took responsibility to reward children using any of the six School Games Values of honesty, teamwork, respect, determination, self-belief and passion with stickers whilst they were waiting for their next activity.
At the end of the competition and all the scores had been collected in, it was Sywell who collected the School Winners Plaque as competition winners with an impressive 218 points. They were followed by Bugbrooke, who scored 148 points. Roade Primary School, along with their Sports Crew, came in third with 133 points with Deanshanger and Silverstone Juniors in fourth and fifth place respectively with 127 points and 88 points.
Well done to all children who competed in the competition and a big thank you to all teachers, parents and carers who supported the children throughout the evening. The SSP would also like to reserve special thanks to Miss Cotter and the Sports Leaders from Elizabeth Woodville School in Roade, whose support was very much appreciated.
