Preston Hedges pip St Mary's to High5 victory

On Tuesday 24th March, nine Primary School High5 cluster winners took part in the South Northants and Daventry Partnership Netball Finals at Magdalen College School in Brackley, with two places at the Summer School Games to compete for.

Despite the chilly weather, this was a highly contested competition with children from Brixworth, Bugbrooke, Clipston, Collingtree, Preston Hedges, Old Stratford, St Mary's, Syresham and Towcester primary schools taking part.

The pace and accuracy of the passing was impressive and there was some super movement across the courts. With some great examples of defending, ball possession, shooting and link up play it was obvious that there must have been lots of practice in the run up to the competition.

Following an initial pool stage, the teams from Preston Hedges, St Mary's and Collingtree progressed to the final pool stage each with a chance of winning the competition. After a number of close games, Preston Hedges topped the table managing to nudge St Mary's into second place on count back of goals scored having been tied on points and goal difference.

The final standings for the competition were:

1st-3rd Positional Pool

1) Preston Hedges 8pts GD: +3 GS: 8

2) St Mary's 8pts GD: +3 GS: 6

3) Collingtree 1pt

4th-6th Positional Pool

4) Brixworth 10pts

5) Old Stratford 6pts

6) Bugbrooke 3pts

7th-9th Positional Pool

7) Clipston 8pts

8) Towcester 6pts

9) Syresham 4pts

Well done to all of the children who competed in their teams last night for showing great teamwork, determination and respect for others during the tournament. Congratulations to Preston Hedges and St Mary's who now progress to the Northamptonshire Summer School Games County High 5 Netball finals that will be held at Moulton College on 9th July, where they will represent the South Northants and Daventry School Sport Partnership and get the chance to compete against teams from Corby, Wellingborough, Kettering and Northampton. The Partnership wishes you both good luck for the competition.
