Over 400 children attend inaugural Daventry Primary Cross Country

On Thursday 26th March, the South Northants and Daventry School Sport Partnership hosted its inaugaral Daventry Primary Cross Country event at Daventry Sports Park.
The event, supported by Northamptonshire Sport, attracted over 400 children representing 13 Daventry-district Primary Schools with individual and team glory to compete for. Split into different races by gender and year group, the Key Stage 2 children battled strong winds to overcame courses ranging from 600m (Year 3) to 1500m (Year 5/6), earning points for their school based on their finishing position.
Determination, perserverance and self-belief were many of the values on display during the afternoon with many children overcoming their own personal barriers to finish the course. At the end of each race, every children received a certificate to acknowledge thier achievements and a bottle of water, which were kindly donated by Tesco Daventry.
At the end of the afternoon, children finishing in the Top 3 from each race received a medal, presented by Cllr Alan Hills from Daventry District Council, with the Overall Schools Champions awarded a Presentation Shield. In what was a close competition, Brixworth eventually prevailed as winners with The Grange and Moulton in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The School Sport Partnership would like to congratulate all of the children for completing the course and thank all staff, parents and carers for their support in cheering the children on. Special thanks also go to the Core Team Staff at Northamptonshire Sport for their efforts in supporting the event, which without would not have been possible.
