On Thursday 5th February, the South Northants and Daventry Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics District Finals were held at the Daventry Leisure Centre with children from 9 cluster winning schools competing for two places at the Winter Schools Games.
Throughout the afternoon, 92 boys and 87 girls from Badby, Bracken Leas, Brixworth, Bugbrooke, Caroline Chisholm, Deanshanger, Hardingstone, Middleton Cheney and Nicholas Hawksmoor took part in a wide range of track and field events; including the Obstacle Relay, 6 Lap Paarlauf, Speed Bounce, Vertical Jump, Chest Push and Javelin, earning points for their school in the process.
It was a very close competition with children from all schools having some individual successes, however, when all the individual scores were combined to give an overall team total, the final standings were:
1st Caroline Chisholm 358 points
2nd Nicholas Hawksmoor 286 points
3rd Bracken Leas 274 points
4th Brixworth 256 points
5th Bugbrooke 226 points
6th Deanshanger 160 points
7th Hardingstone 158 points
8th Badby 144 points
9th Middleton Cheney 130 points
Congratulations and well done to all the children who took part and did their very best for their schools. Caroline Chisholm and Nicholas Hawksmoor now go on to represent South Northants and Daventry Partnership at the Level 3 Sportshall Athletics Finals at the Winter School Games in Kettering on 24th February.
The Partnership would like to thank the parents and carers who came to support the children and watched from the gallery above the hall. Plus a very special thank you to the Young Leaders from DSLV, who once again did such a fantastic job of carrying out the scoring so competently and without whose support the competition would not have been possible.
