Double Olympic athlete Andy Baddeley set to open the Northamptonshire School Games tomorrow

GB athletic phenomenon Andy Baddeley is set to provide inspiration to youngsters at the Northamptonshire School Games which start tomorrow - Tuesday 24th February.

The Sainsbury's School Games is an exciting, fully inclusive competition for school children in England.

They are designed to motivate, enthuse and inspire young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport.

Athletic star Andy Baddeley, a double Olympian and World Championship finalist will be visiting the School Games in Kettering on 24th February.

Andy will be attending the event in his capacity as a Sport England Sporting Champions and is excited about interacting with the young people at the event.

"I didn't make the first team at school, and struggled to keep up... 10 years later I was the fastest miler in the world. So dream big about the future and set no limits, but focus on working hard today, right now, to help you get there."

"Having represented Britain at major events like the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, I feel it is really important for me to give something back to sport because it has given me so much. That is why I love being a Sport England Sporting Champion and working with young people."

At a local level the Sainsbury's School Games are delivered by schools, Sainsbury's School Games organisers, clubs, County Sports Partnerships (Northamptonshire Sport in this county) and other local partners.

Local organising committees, chaired by head teachers and actively supported by county sports partnerships and London Youth Games, oversee the county festivals. Every school in England has been given the opportunity to get involved, potentially giving every school child the chance to take part.

There are nearly 17,000 schools involved through the Sainsbury's School Games website and there will be around 80 level 3 School Games festivals due to take place in this academic year.

The Northamptonshire Sainsburys School Games 2015 (organised by Northamptonshire Sport) takes place in two parts: the Winter Games this February and the Summer Games in July,

Around 1700 children will be competing at the Games, along with 100 young leaders which run from 24th February to the 27th February. The Games are the culmination of months of intra-school and inter-school competitions with each County District now being represented in the Finals

The Winter Games competitions will run across 13 sports (including Sporthall Athletics, Basketball, Futsal, Dodgeball, Boccia, Volleyball and Sitting Volleyball, Badminton and Indoor Rowing, Table Tennis and Polybat, and Tag Rugby) and will be held mainly at Kettering Sports Arena, along with Kettering Rugby Club (hosting tag rugby) and Weavers School, Wellingborough playing host to table tennis.
