Northamptonshire Sport offers solutions to your New Year resolutions!

Ways to Get Active to help you kick start your New Year resolutions:

Jog Northants
Northamptonshire Sport's 'Jog Northants' programme announces 13 new jogging groups to start throughout the county in January, all helping beginners to start jogging regularly using a gradual progression programme.

All the groups start with a mixture of walking and jogging and are ideal for anyone that has never run before. The groups meet all requirements; whether you want a little help to get started, want the safety of a group run, train for an event or like the social part of meeting others whilst getting active.

13 new groups for complete beginners will be starting in January in Northampton, Brackley, Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Rushden and Wollaston.

Nordic Walking
Northamptonshire Sport's 'Nordic Walking programme announces new courses starting in January for anyone who would like to give Nordic Walking a go.

Nordic Walking is an enhancement of walking by using specially designed walking poles and a technique that ensures they are placed behind the body as a means of propulsion, Nordic Walking provides a gentle but effective way to work the whole body.

The Benefits of Nordic Walking means that the upper body and leg muscles are used more efficiently to burn more calories, loose weight, improve muscle tone, increase energy levels, reduce pressure on knees and joins and of course, it is enjoyable and sociable particularly if you walk with a group.

Northamptonshire Sport offer free taster sessions and run beginner courses, which are delivered by qualified Nordic Walking UK Instructors. Once you've learnt the technique you will be able to use it in your everyday life and walk alone, with friends and family or with your local Nordic Walking group.

There will be a free taster sessions on Saturday 10th January at 11:30am – 12:30pm, meeting at the Racecourse, Northampton.

Workplace Challenge - Are You up to the Challenge?
If you don't fancy Jogging or Nordic Walking, why not give the Workplace Challenge a go to help you and your colleagues get active.

The Workplace Challenge was launched in January 2014 across 29 counties in England, which has seen over 3005 workplaces get involved. In Northamptonshire 130 local workplaces and 600 individuals signed up to the challenge. This year, the Workplace Challenge will be launched over 36 counties in England on Monday 5th January.

The National Activity Log will commence on Monday 5th January 2015 for 8 weeks. We are encouraging employees from all types of workplaces – big or small, public or private, across Northamptonshire to get together with colleagues to pool their efforts and win points for their workplace. Take part in sports and other physical pursuits, either with colleagues, friends or on your own and log it using Workplace Challenge's free online activity tracker tool.

Any activity logged will generate points which contribute to the leaderboard. The more activity logged, the more points obtained – and points mean prizes!
You can log anything that you already take part in, - whether it be your weekly football training or Zumba class, or even something new you may want to try in the New Year. You don't have to log on everyday and it's possible to back-date entries.

The company and individual earning the highest number of activity points by 1st March will clinch the title of the most active workplace in Northamptonshire.
