Northamptonshire is celebrating its latest sporting champion today after 17 year old Chloe Wordingham of Wellingborough IBC became the new National Bowls Champion in the Ladies Under 25 Singles at White Oak IBC, Swanley, Kent.
This is the latest exciting bowls related news to hit the county following its recent announcement as a BDA Hot Spot and follows Chloe's success at the 2014 Northamptonshire Sports Awards, where she was the recipient of the Young Sportswoman of the Year award.
Chloe, a winner of the same title in 2013, defeated Katy Smith of Westlecot IBC, Wiltshire 2 sets to nil in her first round, before moving on to the Quarter Final where she met and beat Rebecca Thatcher of St Neots IBC, also 2 sets to nil. This set up an intriguing Semi-Final against Katherine Rednall of Ipswich & District IBC.
The Semi-Final against last year's winner was always expected to be a tough test for Chloe, however she edged the contest 1.5 to 0.5 and set up a match with Chelsea Tomlin of Spalding IBC in the final.
After a slow start, Chloe held her nerve to complete a 2 sets to nil victory and with it, seal her second National Under 25 Indoor Championship.
A huge congratulations to Chloe, who will now go on to make her international debut at Erewash in February as National Champion!
