On 2nd October, Guilsborough School played host to the School Games Year 5/6 Mixed Football and Year 5/6 Small Schools Mixed Football competitions for schools in the Daventry North Cluster.
Children from ten schools arrived full of enthusiasm and anticipation, and eager to represent their schools and to show off their footballing skills.
Teams from The Abbey, Badby, The Grange, DSLV, Guilsborough and West Haddon took part in a tough set of matches and after some very close games and great team performances, The Grange, West Haddon, Guilsborough and Badby went through to Trophy Semi-Finals. In the semi-finals, with The Grange and West Haddon booking their place in the final, the Third Place Playoff was contested between Badby and Guilsborough. In what was a closely fought match, Badby eventually prevailed winners with a 2-1 victory.
After 4 matches and having both shown resilience in defence throughout the tournament, West Haddon and The Grange contested the Trophy Final. In what proved to be a very even contest and after a string of fine saves from both goalkeepers, the match ended 0-0 after 10 minutes. After a period of extra time, the scores remained 0-0 and even with the teams playing for a 'Golden Goal, the teams could not be separated. With time and conditions both becoming a factor, the two teams decided to shake hands and share the trophy. Both teams will now progress to the Partnership's Level 2 Year 5/6 Mixed Football Finals at The Elizabeth Woodville School North Campus on 17th November, where they will join Brixworth, the Daventry South Cluster winners last week and schools from South Northants, to battle it out for a place at the ESFA Mixed Football Finals to be held in Corby in January 2015.
