Satellite Clubs helping to recruit members

Since the launch of the national Satellite Clubs Programme in 2013 over 20 community clubs across Northamptonshire have linked with schools and been funded to deliver Satellite Clubs for young people aged 11-25.

Through the Sport England lottery funded Satellite Club programme, Northamptonshire Sport have helped with start up grants to get Satellite Clubs established. These grants have covered funding for coaching time, facility hire, equipment, kit, training for young people and in return clubs are:

  • Increasing new members in their club
  • Retaining members for longer
  • Accessing new avenues to recruit volunteers and leaders
  • Gaining a higher profile in the community – great for attracting partners and funders

Wellingborough Phoenix Basketball Club set up a Satellite Club at Weavers School in November 2011 and run weekly 1 hour sessions on Monday night 5-6pm. The students are charged a small fee to attend in order to mirror a community club setting and, some girls have joined the club and attend club training regularly which has been great for the club as there is a shortage of female members .

Does your club have the capacity to have a Satellite Club?
