Running event for children launches and will run on the first Saturday of every month
On Saturday 5th April, 'Kids Run Free' launched a brand new monthly children's running event on The Racecourse in Northampton.
Promoting an active, healthy and happy lifestyle for children is the aim of the Charity 'Kids Run Free', who is behind the event. The Co-operative Membership Community Fund gave the funding for the events which are supported by Northamptonshire Sport.
The Mayor of Northampton Councillor Les Marriot, Councillor Brandon Eldred and the mascot Joey the Kangaroo started the races and led the cheering. With children up to the age of 16 taking part in the races, and Mum and Dad watching or joining in, it was a real family event. Saturday's launch had over 30 local children taking part, running distances from 50 metres to 1km.
There was a fantastic atmosphere as children were cheered on by parents, brothers, sisters and volunteers. Parents, if they wish, can record their times on our database and measure their improvement.
Each child gets a sticker when they run, and when they collect 8 stickers, they get a Kids Run Free T shirt!
Northamptonshire Sport and Kids Run Free recognise that a sustained effort is needed to get families active and keep children healthy. There will be an event on the first Saturday of every month on the Racecourse. The event starts at 09:00, close to the Pavilion on East Park Parade. There is no subscription, membership or entry fee. All you need to do is register on the web site www.kidsrunfree.co.uk and turn up.
We look forward to seeing more children on May 3rd and making Kids Run Free Northampton a great success.
