HCAW Registered Schools Area

We recognise the importance of educating children and young people around tolerance and respect of others. We are therefore encouraging schools to host a Multi-Cultural Activity Event at their school on Tuesday 17th October 2017 or at some point during that week.

The Multi-Cultural Activity Day should enable all schools to:

1. Engage their pupils in a range of activities from different cultures in a fun and positive environment (See the two resource packs below targeting Primary and Secondary Schools).

2. Hold reflective sessions afterwards should prompt discussion around differences, tolerance, integration and respect for others (See Schools' Multi-cultural Reflective Sessions pack).

The overall aim of the day is:

To enable and encourage cultural integration, respect and tolerance amongst children and young people, by helping them develop an awareness and understanding of cultural diversity through sport and recreational activity.

Objectives:

1. Develop an understanding of sports and activities from different cultures.

2. Use sport and physical recreation as a means to encouraging integration.

3. Provide opportunities to learn about respect, fair play and teamwork.

4. Develop confidence in children and young people to improve relationships.

5. Promote Spirit of the Games Values.
