Kian has experienced a number of ongoing health issues which amongst many other things have resulted in him having epileptic fits and becoming visually impaired. Despite all of this he has become a very good swimmer and now coaches others too.
Being involved in swimming at the Daventry Dolphins club has not only helped Kian physically, but also created a friendship group who take his mind off his health issues. Spending time in the water provides an opportunity to concentrate his efforts on something positive and improving while also having fun with his friends.
Kian has also got involved in para – swimming and won medals at national events. This has once again created another social circle for him and provided opportunities to travel to different places around the country at which he has competed.
Kian's involvement in swimming has helped improve his confidence. He's used this to become an ambassador for both Swim England and British Blind Sport. In these roles he provides a voice for other people with long term health conditions and visual impairments to ensure that they are always considered when planning ways to get more people involved in swimming.
