Swimming is an important life skill for everyone and school swimming is a wonderful opportunity for students with special educational needs to develop their swimming skills, water confidence and safety.
Northamptonshire for the second year running is part of an exciting YST Innovation project – helping to increase School Swimming opportunities across the county for SEND children.
The initiative allows us to work across the county with mainstream, or special schools, with teachers and individual SEND children to identify and overcome issues and barriers to school swimming lessons. Discussing and working directly with teachers and students to develop an action plan, ideas, ways in which we can work together to get the child back to swimming lessons alongside their peers. One to one, swimming pool support offered too, to enable teacher and pupil confidence to continue.
