HATE CRIME AWARENESS WEEK
14 - 21 October 2017
Bullying, respect for others, integration and tolerance are just a few of the issues being face by young people today both within schools and communities. We want to better educate young people around issues of hate. We are therefore running a number of activities within the county during Hate Crime Awareness Week (HCAW) and would encourage your school to get involved.
This year annual HCAW campaign runs from 14 October to 21 October 2017. Safer Northants (partnership of police, local authority, fire, OPCC and other statutory and non-statutory bodies) are co-ordinating a week of activities in order to recognise the importance of this campaign and the impact that hate crime can have on individuals and their communities.
Educating children and young people around tolerance and respect of others is extremely important. We would therefore like to encourage all schools across the county to host a Multi-Cultural Activity Event at their school on Tuesday 17 October 2017, or at some point during that week.
The Multi-Cultural Activity Day should enable schools to:
1. Engage their pupils in a range of activities from different cultures in a fun and positive environment (utilising the suggested activities contained within the Multi-cultural Activities and Games Document - primary and secondary).
2. Hold reflective sessions following the activities to prompt discussion around differences, tolerance, integration and respect for others (utilising the School's Multi-Cultural Reflective Sessions Pack).
3. Share their thoughts and experiences of the event by designing a poster for the final competition that reflects their learning. There will be a competition for both primary and secondary schools whereby the winners will receive a certificate and a £30 voucher in their school assembly during week commencing Monday 20 November 2017, which will be presented by Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Swann from Northamptonshire Police.
