THE ACTIVATOR: I'm Phil, aged 64, ex HM Forces and played football twice weekly until aged 49 when I suddenly stopped after a head-on car smash which put me into a wheelchair with both my legs in plaster (that slowed me down a bit!). My ankle joint is now fused with metal, so I've only 5% rotation, my surgeon said I'd never play again as couldn't play at speed or take impact. However, although I'm now also slightly overweight I can now play this fantastic new sport! Update: Ive since lost a stone!!

I discovered WALKING FOOTBALL in 2016 when I sampled a few sessions around the town (and county) but found none quite catered to my particular disabilities and ethos. I therefore started my own with people who agreed with our ethos: Its not just for over 50s but over 60s, 65s, and over 70s and those who cant play anywhere else. We have 45 guys aged over 65, our oldest guys are 75. Our squad includes those who may have one or more slight issues - maybe unfit, overweight, diabetes, hate gyms, want the bonding, maybe depression or minor mental issues or feel socially isolated. Now in 2021 we've run over 500 sessions since May 2016 and introduced the sport to over 150 former players (most had not played in 20-40 years!) we have over 110 regulars making us the biggest club in the county and in top ten biggest in the country. Since August 2019

UPDATE: we play on the fantastic all-weather facility at Moulton FC, Brunting Rd, NN3 7QF which means we can play all year around too! Yes 52 weeks a year.Winner of a Northamptonshire Community Award 2019

Walking Football needs Referees. Are you a Ref, ex-ref, maybe looking to keep in touch with the sport or just try a new hobby? Ideally you'd be in our age group of 50-75 but that's not crucial. We dont tolerate any dissent - we just need someone to help us enjoy the game in a safe environment. Full training given. Apply to Phil
