About Northampton Social Cyclists
Back in June 2016 a small group of friends and I thought that it would be a great idea to start a 'social' group of cyclists in Northampton, aimed at mixed ability, like-minded recreational riders . We now have over 150 members. One reason is that although there seemed to be several clubs/groups for serious cyclists (going hard at it for 50 miles in the early hours), there are none in Northampton for the more shall we say 'recreational' cyclist , who is perhaps not really too keen on setting their alarm for 7am at the weekend .
Myself and other volunteers regularly organise and lead rides from various locations (it keeps it more interesting) and typical distances of between 10 to 30 miles. We mainly cycle the quiet lanes and cycle paths/tracks (sometimes bridleways) of Northamptonshire, with the focus being on fun ,fitness and enjoying the views...with a cafe/pub stop thrown in for good measure. No lycra is required (although members of formal clubs are more than welcome) and we do most of our rides at the weekend , departing at a sociable time of 1030- 11ish (to allow for those that enjoy the odd late night out) and then pedaling along at a leisurely pace for a couple of hours. Sound good ??
Our group is part of the British Cycling Social Ride initiative, so please also go to the Lets Ride website to have a look at our rides coming up as well as ones we have done. Feel free to join the group (it's totally FREE), and sign up for a ride or two : https://www.letsride.co.uk/groups/northampton-social-cyclists
