Focusing on developing practical leadership skills and also exploring the new School Games Personal Challenge criteria, these Leadership Days are only available to schools part of the South Northants and Daventry School Sport Partnership.

As part of our ongoing work to support the continual development of future School Games Young Leaders, the School Sport Partnership will be running it annual Sports Crew Leadership Days at Moulton College on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th April, 9:30am – 3:00pm.

With an increased focus on schools to support physical activity levels in children by developing an offer of 30 active minutes, the theme of this year's Leadership Days will be around 'Active Pupils'

Aimed at children in Year 5, the day will give the children the opportunity to work in their school groups to increase their confidence and develop their knowledge and understanding when leading activities. The children will undertake two workshops in the morning:

  • Practical Leadership - working with the South Northants Council Youth Activators, pupils will learn how to set up and deliver small sided games, explore how we can adapt activities to include and challenge children as well as develop their confidence when working as part of a team and speaking out loud in front of groups.
  • Personal Challenges - themed around the new School Games focus on embedding personal challenge into everyday school like and school sport, this workshop will see the children work in small groups to understand the purpose of Challenge activities, explore both new and existing ideas before using their own imagination to create their own Challenge Activity Card.

The afternoon session will see the children put their morning learning into practice where they will then lead their own Personal Challenge event to children from other groups. This will give them a chance to consolidate their learning whilst also building up their bank of activity ideas ready for their return to school. Whilst this is going on in the hall, there will be an opportunity for staff to take part in the 'Developing Good Active Practice' workshop. This workshop will see staff explore how active their school is and then provide a number of useful tools and tips to take back to school to help create more active schools and classrooms. The day will finish off with a chance for teachers and children to sit down and plan the launch of their own School Personal Challenge event.

During our closing address, we will also be launching our #teamSND Active School Challenge linked into the county Active School Week taking place between Monday 21st May and Friday 25th May.

Group places (4 pupils and an accompanying member of staff) for the day cost £125, which includes t-shirts for all young leaders along with e-resources.

Schools are not limited to the number of groups they wish to book on but places on each day are limited to 25 groups so please book early to avoid disappointment.
