Northampton Sports Awards
On Thursday 13 October, Northampton celebrated its grass roots sporting heroes at the Sports Awards 2011. The awards, now in their third year, showcased the hard work, dedication and sporting success of individuals and teams in Northampton.
More than 200 sports guests attended the ceremony at St George's Hall, Northampton. In the 13 categories the judging panel heard worthy nominations from individuals who give so much to the town sporting success.
The following winners were announced at the awards evening:
- Young Leader of the Year: Aaron Tebbutt - Welland Valley FC
- Young Sportswoman of the Year: Zoe Gidden - Northampton Swimming Club
- Young Sportsman of the Year: Aaron Layton - Moulton College
- Sport School of the Year: Delapre Primary School
- Get Active 2011 Award: Val Kirkham
- Community Club of the Year: Northampton Nets Basketball Club
- Team of the Year: Rugby and Northampton Athletics
- Club Coach of the Year: Andrew Sharp - Northampton Swimming
- Club Volunteer of the Year: Dean Conopo - Duston United Tennis Club
- Disabled Sports Achiever Award: Chris McDonald Northampton Town Multi Disabled Football Club
- Local Sportswoman of the Year: Chantelle Cameron - Kings Heath Boxing Club
- Local Sportsman of the Year: Michael Aldridge - Wootton Road Runners
- Long Time Contribution to Sport: Dennis Lawrence - Old Northamptonians Cricket Club Managing
Director of Nrthampton Leisure Trust, Ian Redfern said: "We had a fantastic evening recognising sporting talent in Northampton.
