2007 Youth Games
The ninth Northamptonshire Youth Games took place on Saturday 30th June 2007 at Kettering Leisure Village and Bishop Stopford School.
Olympian Derek Redmond opened the games and was joined by local young sports people Sarah Anne De Kramer and Tim Yarnall for the mass warm up that followed. The Mascot race was won by Newshound from the Daventry Express!
The day itself was a great success with 700 young people participating in 8 sports with girls cricket the only casualty of the poor weather that we had suffered leading up to the games. Each participant received a drinks bottle, certificate and a free ticket to attend at match to see Northampton Town Football Club at Sixfields.
The Olympic Roadshow also received over 1000 visitors and our special guests, swimmer Ross Davenport and local athlete Sian Edwards were on hand to speak with everyone and talk about their aspirations for London 2012. The Dream Statistics Zone and the Have a Go areas were particularly popular with all ages.
