Daventry Swimming Gala July 2007

The 2nd Daventry and District Schools Swimming Festival took place at the Daventry Leisure Centre on Thursday 5th July 2007. 5 schools from throughout the District took part in what was considered to be one of the loudest swimming competitions held there for a very long time. There was a fantastic team spirit within all the School teams, with everyone encouraging their fellow swimmers. The competition was organised by NSport in conjunction with the Daventry Dolphins Swimming Club and was for children attending school years 3, 4, 5 & 6. It provided the ideal opportunity to talent spot potential stars of the future.

The schools participating were from Ashby Fields, Daventry / Badby / Walgrave / Welford and defending Champions Yelvertoft.

After 10 events, Ashby Fields (41) held a slender 4 points advantage over Badby (37) with the other 3 schools incredibly all tied on 24 points.

After 20 events, Badby (76) had cut the deficit to 1 point behind Ashby Fields (77), followed by Welford (53), Yelvertoft (48) and Walgrave (44).

To conclude the competition, the final 2 events were the mixed Years 3&4 and mixed Years 5&6, 8 x 25m freestyle relays. The noise created by the supporters was deafening. Ashby Fields finished first in both relays ahead of Badby.

The Final Result

1st Ashby Fields 95; 2nd Badby 90; 3rd Welford 64; 4th Yelvertoft 59; 5th Walgrave 50.

All competitors received a Certificate of Participation and an invitation to have 4 free 30 minutes practice sessions with the Daventry Dolphins on 30th July, 6th, 13th and 20th August 2007.
