Track & Field Officials Qualifications

Level 1 Assistant Officials Award

The Level 1 Assistant Officials Award will help to develop your skills in officiating and allow you to assist qualified officials at athletics events.

The award will enable you to measure distances and times, make and share judgements, record observations, judgements and data, ensure safety and report concerns, liaise and communicate with other officials and athletes, report rule infringements, follow procedures and apply rules.

Level 2 Officials Award

Successful completion of the Level 2 Award for Technical Officials will enable you to work with other qualified officials, act as a lead official and support assistant officials, whilst judging at athletics events.

The course will help you to:

· Gain knowledge in a specific discipline (track, field, timekeeper, starter/marksman)

· Develop skills in this area

· And apply rules in officiating in athletics.

Level 3 Officials Award

The Level 3 Officials Award is a progression from Level 2 that both consolidates learning at level 2 and prepares the official to operate at a higher level through the introduction of additional modules including meeting management and appropriate technology.

Level 4 & Level 5 are currently under development.

Endurance Official Qualification

Level 2 Award

This is the basic level with the aim being to recruit, encourage and recognise as many people as possible. At this level, officials are expected to have knowledge and practical experience of the duties involved for at least one year.

Level 3 Award

Officials at this level must have at least 1 year’s service at Level 2 involving a number of races. Individuals should have knowledge and practical experience of more than one area of race organisation (start, course, finish, timekeeping, rules and administration).

Level 5 Award

At this level an official must have at least 3 year’s active service at Level 3. During that time the individual must have satisfied their peers of their competence. They should have knowledge and practical experience of all areas of race organisation and have acted as a "key official" in a number of races.
