Coach Education
Level 1 Coaching Award
This course is an introduction to athletics coaching skills, comprising practical and theory elements with a focus on how to coach.
On completion of the course the coach is qualified and insured to coach under the supervision of a Level 2 Coach (or higher) will be entered on the UK Athletics database and receive a coaching licence.
Course Duration: 1 day 8 hours
Level 2 Coaching Award
The core part of this course is completed by coaches of all disciplines. part of the course is an event specific day where the coach will choose to specialise in a specific event, the day will be part learning and part assessment.
On completion of the award the coach will be qualified and insured to work unsupervised in a selected group of events.
Event Group Modules: (You can extend your qualification further by completing any of these modules lasting 3 hours)
- Speed
- Jumps
- Endurance
- Throws
Course Duration: The core workshop takes place over 2 days and this is followed by an event specific 1 day assessment
Requirements: Must have completed the Level 1 Coach Award
Level 3 Coaching Award
This course consists of four phases the coach must complete and one optional module, and is aimed at coaches working with athletes on a regular basis and looks to improve their coaching and planning skills, and fostering an understanding of what contributes to athletic performance.
Completion of this award is by written and practical assessment
Course Duration: Level 3 takes a minimum of 12 months to complete
Requirements: Must have completed the Level 2 Coach Award
Level 4 Coaching Award
This course consists of four phases the coach must complete and one optional module. It aims to help those coaches committed to helping athletes realise their potential.
Completion of this award is by written and practical assessment
Course Duration: Level 4 takes a minimum of 18 months to complete
Requirements: Must have completed the Level 3 Coach Award
Children in Athletics Course
This course is aimed at people involved in leading children in athletics type activities. It introduces activities that are appropriate as an introduction to full athletics events for children.
The course qualifies the participant to lead a group of children aged 8-13 in athletics type activities using soft play equipment
Course Duration: 8 hours
Fitness in Running & Walking Course
This course qualifies participants to lead a group of people in endurance activities, such as running, walking, etc.
