Club Accreditation
Golf Mark is an Accreditation scheme run by ELGA & EGU. Specific standards are set regards to Coaching & Playing, Club Environment and Child protection. Affiliated Golf Clubs can apply to the scheme at www.golfmark.org, initially clubs will be asked to complete a Self Assessment which will be followed up by a visit from a Regional Development Officer. Advice on what is required can be given to clubs who wish to apply or clubs can access the GolfMark Criteria at www.golfmark.org. From February 2006 clubs who gain the GolfMark Accreditation will also be awarded the Sport England ClubMark.

What Support does the EGU/ELGA provide clubs working towards accreditation?
Once a club has applied for the GoflMark and completed a Self Assessment a meeting will be arranged to visit the club. At this stage the areas outlined above are discussed and evidence provided. Following the visit the club will receive a Development Report outlining areas for consideration and the Development Officer will work with the club until they attain the GolfMark Accreditation.
Does the EGU/ELGA offer a benefits package?
- Free Copy of the Children in Golf Resource Pack to assist clubs in Child Protection.
- Opportunity to use logo to promote the club as a junior friendly facility
- Promotion Nationally and Locally as GolfMark Accredited facility
- Opportunity to access funding : Free Golf Coaching, Junior Coaching Grants, Community Club Development Grants along with opportunities to access external funding from non golfing organisations.
Child Protection
The EGU/ELGA has a Child Protection Policy in place which has been developed and adopted by the Children in Golf Group . In 2005 a Children in Golf Resource Pack for golf clubs and county associations and county unions was launched which is currently under review. This resource can be downloaded at the CiG website which is www.childreningolf.org or a copy can be purchased

Is the EGU/ELGA registered to process CRB checks?
THE EGU & ELGA are both able to process CRB checks. Club Officials and Junior Volunteers within golf can obtain CRB checks free of charge. PGA professionals need to obtain their CRB check through the Professional Golf Association (PGA).
What is the EGU/ELGA recommended player: coach ratio?
1:6 would be considered best practise for group coaching above this a helper is recommended
Does the EGU/ELGA have a code of conduct which golf coaches are expected to sign up to?
Within the Children in Golf Resource Pack there are Codes of Conduct that we are recommending clubs to adopt and get their coaches and junior volunteers to sign up to however this is not mandatory. With regards to Golf Coaches we only recognise golf coaches who have been through the PGA. Within Golf there are 5 levels of coaching, Levels 1 & 2 are volunteer coaches who must be under the guidance of a level 3 Professional. Level 3 is a Golf Professional who has successfully completed at least three years of training. The Golf Foundation offer a Tri Golf Activators workshop and a Golf Leaders Workshop these are aimed at volunteers and teachers and might be a stepping stone for someone wishing to become a coach.
There are other coaching schemes available but we will only use PGA Qualified Professionals.

Training & Support
What EGU/ELGA training opportunities are available outside the standard coach education structure?
- GPCP - all people in golf clubs who work with children or mange children in the golf setting
- EGU Golf referee - those likely to be called upon to officiate at golf events, matches and tournaments
Funding
What funding schemes does the EGU/ELGA run to support club development?
- Free Golf Coaching Grant of £200 - an opportunity for the club to promote their club/facilities/have a go lessons/ to those in the general community (Please contact Richard Lobb who is co-ordinating this scheme locally on behalf of EGU/ELGA)
- Junior Club Coaching Grant - Free junior coaching is a match scheme club puts up £125 EGU/ELGA match funds to provide £250 worth of junior coaching used at the clubs discretion.
Coaching Development
Does Golf run a coach recognition scheme?
- Level 1 to 5 PGA Coaching scheme
- Amateurs and trainees up to Level 3 beyond directed at Professional golfers it does not exclude amateurs but normally the 3-5 are working in the Profession.
- On going courses are run offering CPD points on completion, these are use to raise the rating of the professional.
Does Golf have a coach mentoring scheme?
Yes. Levels 1-2 have to work with a designated mentor. All trainees are attached to club for three years if not following the University route when the tutors are college base and then a work placement is undertaken with a tutor. All PGA professionals are part of the PGA Pastoral Care scheme which offers them career and professional competency guidance, each pro has an annual visit/ return to complete. All are responsible for attaining a number CPD points during the season in order to retain their rating.
