Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is an enhancement of walking - by using specially designed walking poles and a technique that ensures they are planted behind the body as a means of propulsion and provides a gentle but effective way to work the whole body.

Nordic Walking was originally used by cross country skiers as a way of staying fit over the summer. It has since become a popular activity for all with benefits including an improvement in mobility and fitness. With the correct technique it uses 90% of your skeletal muscles and burns 20% more calories than ordinary walking, however you don't feel the effect of this extra work as you are using the poles to provide support and propulsion.

Nordic Walking is simpe to learn, safe, adaptable, enjoyable and very effective. Projects all over the UK are reporting high levels of participation and very positive feedback.
