About Get Active In Northamptonshire

Over the next three years Get Active in Northamptonshire will aim to encourage 20,000 more people (16+) taking part in sport and active recreation. There are two co-ordinators who are responsible for marketing the campaign, raising awarness and co-ordinating activities in order to get Northamptonshire active.

Active People Survey

Active People is a survey about people's leisure and recreational activities. It is a national telephone survey that samples people over the age of 16 throughout England including Northamptonshire.  It is the largest ever survey of sport and active recreation to be undertaken in Europe.

The survey aims to gather evidence on the number of people achieving the recommended amount of physical activity. It is important to complete the survey as it will help identify how participation varies from place to place and between different population groups. The information will also be used to identify where more activities and opportunities need to be developed.  The survey is due to be completed in December 2009.

Tips for completing the survey

  1. A brisk walk can be counted as active recreation and count towards your 30 minutes
  2. Cycling and walking to work will only be counted if you undertake these activies for your health not as active travel!
  3. 30 minutes of activity should be undertaken on separate days of the week, a session lasting longer than 30 minutes will only be counted once
  4. Other non-sporting activities that count include: Dancing for fitness, Swimming, Tai-Chi, Football in the Park and Keep-fit classes
