Meet the joggers
I work in an office so like to keep active after sitting at a desk all day. I already danced regularly but I wanted to do something else as well. So in September 2015 I decided to join a Beginners 0-5k 12 week running course run by Rushden Runners.
Having never run before, I wondered if I would be able to complete the course. Week 1 we started with 30 second run/walk intervals, slowly increasing the run intervals by week 7 we were running for 20 minutes without stopping and by week 12 we had achieved the 5k.
At the end of the course I was hooked, I did my first Parkrun on 19th December 2015 and I ran my first race on 28th March 2016. Getting that first medal was AMAZING. Since then I have entered many races (I now have about 30 medals!), 5k, 10k, 5 mile, 10 mile and recently my first half marathon.
I would not have been able to do this without the support and encouragement of the coaches Robin Fiander, Fiona Fiander and Keith Lakin. I have made many new friends with my fellow runners, the club is very friendly and sociable. A big thank you to you all.
I would highly recommend joining a running club, however, be prepared for running to take over your life!!

I've been running for about 4 years with the Rushden Runners on Tuesday/Thursday at 6.30pm.
I initially joined with a friend for the 12 week beginners course. It was hard going at first even though I was going to the gym on a regular basis. I was scared and very nervous. I didn't think I could keep up with the Beginner Group but with the support and enthusiasm from the Rushden Runners, I was inspired to return each week.
I never imagined how much fun it was just learning to run again. Completing the training was the biggest achievement for me. After getting that certificate, I even treated myself to a pair of NB running shoes.
I've met some wonderful experienced Rushden Runners over the years. They helped me gain confidence and gain the courage to have a go at running races. My very first 5k run was at Stanwick lakes in 2015. Since completing that first race, I've continued to run 5k, 5 miles and I recently completed my very first 10k race.
Even though I'm not the fastest runner, just participating in the event is enjoyable for me. Afterwards, I feel a tremendous sense of personal accomplishment. I would never in my wildest dreams imagine that I would be running at my age. This year, I'm hoping to complete my first half Marathon in May of 2017.
Thank-you Rushden Runners!
I was watching the London Marathon a few years ago and thought, I'm sure I could do that. So, the next day I put on some old trainers and set off on a 'run' to my local Waitrose (it's a mile away). After half a mile I couldn't breathe and had to walk back home. I decided maybe running wasn't for me!!
A year later my sister, who has always been a runner and who is battling a life changing illness was in a good place health wise and persuaded me it'd be fun to do the Mo Run with her. It was 12 weeks away and after my disaster of a run to the local shop I did think it would be a bad idea but I love her dearly so agreed.
I had heard of Rushden Runners so signed up to try to get myself up to the 5k challenge. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and Keith the coach was patient and encouraging. I have to say after the first few weeks I really didn't think running agreed with me but I am quite determined and stubborn so kept at it and gradually I got more stamina and faster.
After the 12 week course I happily trotted around the Mo Run in Nottingham with my sister and we were both happy to get our moustache medals and had a massive sense of accomplishment.
Rushden Runners caters for all speeds of runners and after the beginners course you then go out with the regular runners, no one is ever left behind and I was made to feel welcome. Robin and Fiona are excellent coaches and I soon found I could run for longer and faster and started to enter races (which I am now addicted to), I've run numerous 5k, 10k, 5m, 10m and half marathons and now have my sights set on a marathon.
Thank you to all the Rushden Runners for your continued support and encouragement. We really are like one big happy family.
