Kettering Sports Awards

Young wheelchair tennis star Dermot Bailey won the Arthur Nicholson Award for Kettering’s Sports Personality of the Year at an award ceremony at Wicksteed Park on 6th October.

Dermot represents Great Britain in Wheelchair tennis and is currently ranked 13 in the world as a junior.  As a member of the prestigious performance squad for Wheelchair Tennis, he has reached the final of the Mercedes Open in Holland in 2009 and the semi-finals of the World Team Cup. 

Cllr Jim Hakewill, Leader of Kettering Borough Council said, "I am constantly amazed by the quality of the sporting talent in Kettering and the efforts of the many volunteers that help them. The Sports Awards are a fantastic way of highlighting their achievements and the great work they do to raise the profile of our Borough, helping people become more active whilst enjoying themselves in their chosen sports."

  • Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year: Sally Wager
  • Young male Sports Achiever of the Year: Bradley Burbridge
  • Young female Sports Achiever of the Year: Lana Doran
  • Local Sportsman of the Year: Dermot Bailey
  • Local Sportswoman of the Year: Sally Wager
