Coach Education Generic Courses

Generic courses are available to all sports coaches (or potential coaches) from any sport.

Workshops will provide sports coaches with the information on current issues in sport and enable coaches from a wide range of sports to discuss specific topics which relate to coaching practice. Workshops use a variety of coaching methods and are friendly, informative and an invaluable tool for anyone interested in coaching.

Coaching Children & Young People (scUK)

Discover the needs and motivation of young players. Learn how to deliver effective coaching sessions to meet the level of skill, developmental stage and motivation of each young player.

This workshop will help you, the coach to:

  • explain why children and young players take part in sport
  • identify why children and young people are a special case
  • plan and deliver coaching sessions to maximise learning and enjoyment
  • match your own coaching to meet the developmental stages of children and young people
  • follow good practice when coaching children and young people

Adults Other Than Teachers working in schools (AOTTs)

This workshop is essential for all sports coaches or AOTTs working in schools. The workshop provides a basic understanding of key components of the national curriculum relating to the delivery of physical education, and addresses the key issues facing sports coaches working in schools.

Red Cross 1st Aid for Sport

This is the most popular first aid course offered by the British Red Cross. The programme focuses on key life-saving skills, provides an opportunity to learn the first aid response to the most common accidents and situations and is underpinned by relevant theory. The workshop has been adapted to focus specifically on sport. all NS coded workshops. 

Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children

Examine your own practice and recognise your responsibilities in protecting children from abuse. Protect yourself, the young people and your coaches by understanding good practice.  Learn about child abuse and how to handle situations if you have concerns.

Sports Coach UK  Equity in Your Coaching

This workshop is key for sports clubs working towards Clubmark, or equivalent, accreditation.

This workshop helps you to use and extend your existing skills to ensure that your coaching is truly open.  Learn to identify barriers to participation and use appropriate language and terminology.

EFDS Disability Awareness Training for Sports Coaches

The main focus of the training is to skill up candidates in how to adapt sport and physical activity for disabled people.  This will include; understanding disability, examples of alternative communication and time dedicated to practical sessions to enable candidates to overcome barriers to delivery.

Sports Coach UK Introduction to LTAD

This workshop looks in more detail at the key principals of the 6 phases of the LTAD model (FUNdamentals, Learning to Train, Training to Train, Training to Compete, Training to Win and Retainment). 

Sports Coach UK FUNdamentals of Movement

This is a practical workshop that explores the concepts of Agility, Balance and Co-ordination and complements other coach education resources which focus on the movement skills of running, hopping, skipping, etc.

The workshop helps coaches to observe, analyse and coach good movement patterns within their sessions whether multi-skill/FUNdamentals or sport specific.

It is recommend that coaches attend both workshops.

 

Sports Coach UK A Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches

Mentoring is a powerful tool in the education and development of sports coaches at all levels. This workshop will help you as a mentor to support coaches learning and focus on how learning occurs.

 

Come into Coaching

Come into Coaching is a new scheme aimed at anyone thinking about becoming a coach. The workshop provides potential coaches with the opportunity to find out more about what is involved in coaching and what it takes to become a sports coach.

Following the workshop, candidates are provided with further information and sign posted onto other courses, resources and organisations suitable to their own development needs.

A Club for All

This workshop is key for sports clubs working towards Clubmark (or equivalent) accreditation

This workshop outlines how your club can reach all sections of the community, including young people, older people, those om low incomes, disabled people and people from ethnic minorities.

 

Sporting Volunteers - Recruiting and Supporting Volunteers in Placements

This workshop is key to sports clubs working who have signed up to Sporting Volunteers. This workshop will provide sports clubs with valuable hints and tips on recruiting new volunteers and making effective use of existing volunteers. Clubs will also be informed of local support to help them with the process.

Northamptonshire Sports Coach Inductions

The Northamptonshire Sports Coach Induction will introduce sports coaches and leaders to the sporting networks in Northamptonshire.  The induction will highlight key issus which must be considered whilst planning and delivering activity sessions within the county, it will also inform coaches and leaders of the support which is available to them.

This workshop may be used as part of an organisations coach induction process. 

All coaches attending will receive a resource booklet and will have the option of purchasing a Northamptonshire Sport personal portfolio.  (Portfolios can be purchased for £10)
