2002 Youth Games
Well done and thank you to everyone who was involved in the 2002 Youth Games. The day was a great success with everyone competing to their best abilities showing us some of the great talent in our county.
As well as exciting competitions in all sports, there was plenty of time for fun too, with inflatable games, sports testing and coaching workshops running throughout the day.
The action packed day was also attended by a number of local VIPs including local politicians, sports personalities and Councillors along with national representatives of Sport England.
As well as visiting a number of the sports the VIPs attended the official launch of Active Sports in Northamptonshire. A Sport England Lottery Fund cheque for £1.68 million was awarded to help Northamptonshire Sport provide opportunities to help develop clubs, coaches and young people in 9 different sports across the county.
As if all this action wasn't enough, there was also the passing of the Queen's Jubilee Baton on its way to Manchester for the Commonwealth Games.
Finally a special thank you goes out to all the volunteers and organisers whose hard work on the day made everything go off with a bang, a special thank you goes out to Jenny Tranfield, world ranked number 18 Squash professional, who gave up her Saturday to attend our Youth Games. Of course congratulations goes to overall NYG2002 winners Northampton and all the young people who participated on the day.
