Tons of Fun at the Run
Organisers of this year's Run '10 have released full details of the music, dance and other activities that will be experienced by participants and spectators around the route of the 10km event.
Chris Holmes, Director of Northamptonshire Sport, one of the event organisers, said "completing a 10km run or walk is pretty challenging for most people so we thought we'd arrange for plenty of distraction and entertainment along the way. Participants and spectators will experience a cracking mixture of music, dance, cheerleading and fun. Hopefully it will generate a great atmosphere and give everyone a real lift !"
Some of the things to look out for are:
Sixfields Stadium: 'A Taste of Northamptonshire' marquee will offer everyone a chance to view, taste and buy locally produced, really high quality, food produce from some of the counties best food growers and farms. Trilogy Gym Instructors will lead a mass warm-up just before the start of the races, Solo Circus will be working the crowds and the 'Britain on Show' visitor bus will be in attendance.
Official Starter: Jim Mallinder, Director of Rugby, Northampton Saints RFC will get the event underway.
The Roadmender: The Roadmender have arranged for, weather permitting, local band Judy Mooch to be plugged in ready to entertain participants as they slog up the Horsemarket and then race down the other side.
Market Square: A Northants Dance performance will take place in the market square involving local dance groups giving a vibrant and exciting dance demonstration to lift the participants and entertain the spectators.
The Guildhall: The Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts service will be livening up the area around the Guildhall with performances of their most energetic pieces.
Finish at Sixfields: Northants Vipers Cheerleaders Group will see off the runners at the start and welcome finishers back at the end with plenty of smiles, noise and energy.
Prize-Giving : World Champion Gymnast Daniel Keatings will be present to say a few words about his Olympic hopes and to hand out prizes to the winners and runners-up
With the 5km, 10km and Children's courses using roads closed to traffic through the heart of the town, organisers are calling for support from local residents and businesses as the runners pound the pavements.
Full details of the event and the road closures are on the Run '10 website (www.the-run.org).
